Goethe A1 Writing Exam: Form Task, Short Message and Checklist
A practical guide to the two A1 writing tasks, with the official 20-minute timing and a simple method for covering every point.
The A1 writing section lasts about 20 minutes and has two parts. The language can be simple, but the information must be correct, complete and understandable.
Part 1: Complete a form
You read a short situation and enter missing personal or travel information in a form. Copy names, dates and numbers carefully. Check German date order, capital letters in names and whether the form asks for one person or the whole family.
Part 2: Write a short message
The official model task asks for a short personal text of about 30 words. You normally receive three content points. Write something for all three, then add a suitable greeting and closing. Missing one point costs more than using basic vocabulary.
A five-step method
- Circle the three content points.
- Write one short sentence for each point.
- Add a greeting and a closing.
- Check the verb position and capital letters in nouns.
- Count roughly 30 words and confirm that every point is visible.
Do not try to sound advanced. A message such as “Ich komme am Freitag um 18 Uhr. Kannst du mich am Bahnhof abholen?” is useful because it is direct, complete and easy to understand.
